Statistical Process Control and Evaluation

Statistical process control (SPC), or the application of statistical methods to manufacturing processes, has proven to be an extremely useful tool in understanding and improving a manufacturing process.  Having its roots in the reconstruction of Japan after World War II, many operating companies have applied SPC to manufacturing processes to improve finished product quality and consistency.  LPC has experience in developing and applying SPC methodology to batch and continuous processing, generating customized tools for specific applications.  For example, fermentation processes in corn ethanol plants are generally batch processes, leading to tracking tools that are quite specialized for this type of process.  The examples below are but a very small fraction of the output available to an SPC practitioner, using typical data generated in the plant laboratory.
