Process Hazards Analysis

Process hazards analysis (PHA) of a new process design or an already operating plant using well established methodologies like HAZOP or  What-If analysis are necessary to comply with OSHA requirements.  Dave Litzen learned the HAZOP methodology from the late Frank Mitchell of ICI, (a student of Trevor Kletz) and has many years of PHA training and  practical application.  Litzen has led HAZOP studies for:

  • LPG storage facilities
  • Butadiene storage facilities
  • Chlorinated hydrocarbon manufacturing processes
  • Oxygenated solvents manufacturing processes

Litzen has also led and participated in What-If analyses of various corn and cellulosic ethanol plant designs.
